Men's Basketball Celebrates Sophomore Day in Final Home Game

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team celebrated sophomore day for 5 sophomores including Spencer Reese (Farmington, N.Y.)Andrew Edwards-Ferrell (Rochester, N.Y./U Prep)Marvin Reed Jr. (Durham, N.C./Faith Assembly)Jaiden Burlee (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne), and Slayde Huntley (Herrin, Il./Herrin). The Lakers would also play their final home game of the regular season against the #3 Herkimer County Community College Generals. Despite the occasion, the Lakers would drop their final home game by a score of 87-57.

Sophomore Andrew Edwards-Ferrell was a bright spot in the Lakers offense, leading the team with 17 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting from the field, alongside 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Teammates James Reaves Jr. (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) had a notable game, adding 14 points, including two three-pointers, 2 assists, and 4 steals.

Freshman Jaquan Shears (Rochester, N.Y./Monroe) added a boost off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing 2 rebounds. Shears highlight of the game was a team-high 6 steals in a very impressive defensive effort. 

As the Lakers approach the end of the regular season, the team remains in the hunt for an NJCAA Region III playoff spot, and a Mid-State Athletic Conference championship bid. The Lakers will find their fate for both after the conclusion of their regular season finale next Wednesday, January 15th at 5 PM when they travel to Cayuga Community College for a matchup against the Spartans.
