Lacrosse Wins Big Against Hawks

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lacrosse team had a big home win against their NJCAA Region III opponent Mohawk Valley Community College on Wednesday. The Lakers beat the Hawks 22-7.

After a tough start to their season, the Lakers finally got their chance to show their offensive skills. The game started with a Hawk goal. This put the Lakers into overdrive, and they answered back with seven goals before Mohawk Valley scored their second goal. Goals in the first quarter were scored by Justin Closser, Trae Papke, Sam Johnson, and Dan VanNostrand.

With a score of 7-2 going into the second quarter, the Hawks scored their third goal eight seconds in. Henry Millard answered back, and Sutherland Thayer, and Johnson followed suit. The half ended with a score of Lakers 11, Hawks five.

The third quarter started with another Millard goal. It continued to be a Laker led quarter. The Hawks could only manage to find the back of the net once, ending the quarter with a 19-6 score.

The final 15 minutes of play were again, Laker led. VanNostrand, Millard, and Anthony Devito scored the final Laker goals of the game. The Hawks scored once more to end the game. The final score was 22-7.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Millard with five goals, one assist, and nine ground balls, Johnson with five goals, one assists, and seven ground balls, Thayer with four goals, four assists, and three ground balls, and Goalie Nate Birch with two saves.

The Lakers will play next at Onondaga Community College on Friday, April 5th. The time is still TBA.
