Kierst’s coaching tenure would begin at Waterloo Central School, where earned his first coaching experience as the head coach for the Waterloo modified boy’s lacrosse team from 2009 to 2014, an experience Kierst states, “laid the foundation” for his coaching philosophy which is rooted in academic success, community involvement, and personal growth of his players.

Kierst would work his way up to the assistant varsity coach position for the Waterloo boy’s lacrosse program, where he played a pivotal role in developing the team’s defensive strategies and fostering positive and influential team culture. Reflecting on his journey, Kierst shared, “my lacrosse journey started here at FLCC. During that time, I studied and graduated with an associate degree in criminal justice. After coaching at various levels for Waterloo, I am excited to have the opportunity to return to my alma mater and coach where my own journey began”.

Beyond the lacrosse field, Kierst’s professional life as the Corrections Division Lieutenant at the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department has allowed him to develop leadership qualities and a community-focused mindset, elements he plans to integrate into his coaching. Kierst’s vision for the FLCC men’s lacrosse team is clear, he aims to build a program that not only achieves success on the field, but also fosters a sense of family and pride. “I am honored and humbled to be given the opportunity to have a positive impact on these student-athletes, not only on the field, but off the field as well. Lacrosse teaches us to be part of something bigger than ourselves, to be a team player, and to make sacrifices for the good of each”, Kierst expressed, highlighting his holistic values and coaching philosophy.

At home, Kierst is supported by his wife, Ashley, and their three children, Rhylee, who plays Division III lacrosse at SUNY Cobleskill, Paiton, and CeJay.
