Men's And Women's Track And Field Travel To First Meet Of The Season

On March 16th, the Men and Women's Track team attended their first meet of the 2019 outdoor season at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia. Both teams had several competitive moments against the larger NCAA Division II and III schools, and look to continue their progress as the season unfolds.

From the women's team, Melinda Waag, from Fredonia, NY, had stand out performances. She had a rough start of the meet clipping the 5th hurdle and falling in race, however she came back in force winning her heat in the 200 meter, and placed 14th in the long jump, only 9 inches off the national qualifying standard. If that wasn't enough, in her first ever Javelin event, she finished 8th. Hannah Rogers from Dundee, NY, started the season strong with a 100 meter performance, which was less than a second off of her personal best.

Our spinters and distance crew looked great for having minimal actual track time. Our top four 800 meter runners look like they will crush the National qualifying standard for the 4 X 800 meter relay and have a great chance of repeating as Region III champions. Two of our 1500 meter runners are also within striking distance of the national qualifying standard.  Our 4 X 100 meter relay team consisting of Desmond Barber, Brenden Sofo, Michael Booth, and Greg Marullo, ran a time just over a second off the National Qualifying standard.

Overall this meet is just what our team needs to set up the season for success.

"I couldn't be prouder of our student athletes, and even better the larger 4 year coaches were impressed by our performances," stated Coach Patrick Rae.

On Saturday, March 30th, both teams will be competing at SUNY Geneseo.  Events start at 10AM.
