Track And Field Return From Ice Broken Open

CANTON, N.Y. - On Saturday April 6th the Men and Women's Track and Field team traveled to St. Lawrence University to compete against 8 other schools. As the weather broke and turned sunny, the team's performances rose to the occasion.

On the Women's team, Melinda Waag continued to lock in her place in the national rankings. In the 100 meter hurdles she improved her season's best time to 17.81 seconds, which placed her 4th in the event. She also qualified for the finals in the 100 meters finishing 8th. Hannah Rogers from Dundee, NY, ran a personal best time 16.48 seconds in the 100 meters.  

On the Men's team there were many notable performances. Steven Donnelly continued to increase his Discus school record throwing 39.14 meters, which placed him 3rd in the meet. Michael Booth ran a season's best time of 2:04.84 in the 800 meter run, which has him just .3 seconds off the national qualifying time. Brenden Sofo ran a personal best of 23.48 in the 200 meters which qualified him for the NJCAA National championships in May. The Men's standout of the week was Dylan McNamara who ran the 800 meters and 4 X 800 meter relay. In the 800 meter run McNamara ran 2:01.83 which not only placed 4th in the meet, but also qualified him for the NJCAA national meet. He also ran the fastest leg of the 4 X 800 meter relay along with Dan Frisbee, Ethan Dietschler, and Booth. This relay squad ran 8:28.76, which placed them 4th in the meet and 2nd on the NJCAA leaderboard. This team has an excellent chance of overtaking the current leader in May, at the National Championships.  

Both teams will be competing on Sunday April 14th at the University of Rochester. This meet begins at 10am, please come and cheer on the Lakers.
