Track & Field Completes Successful Outing at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Lakers would not only face the competition, but also the elements in today's meet at SUNY Cortland for the Red Dragon Open and Multi InviteThe Lakers men's and women's track and field teams would travel for the 9:30 A.M., facing the rain and hail.

Lakers Freshman Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra Macedon) and Dillian Hernandez would highlight the Lakers performances on the day. Lloyd would claim 1st place in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:04.76. Hernandez would respectively claim 1st in his event, earning a 44.30m mark in the javelin throw. The marks are both National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III and National qualifiers.

Freshman Leah Lloyd with the win earns her 4th seperate qualifying time in an event. Lloyd has qualified for nationals in the 5k and 3k steeplechase, along with the 800m and 1500m.

Overall, the Lakers performed well amongst the competitions, with colleges like Le Moyne, Oswego, SUNY Cortland, Cazenovia, Alfred State, Potsdam, Plattsburgh and St. John Fisher College in attenance. NJCAA Region III opponent, Onondaga Community College would compete in various events in the meet as well.

The Lakers claimed another successful weekend at the track, with 5 members of the men's team meeting Regional standards, 3 members of the women's team meeting Regional standards and 2 new men's national qualifiers and 2 new women's national qualifiers.

Overall on the day, the Lakers would see 13 finish in the top-10 in their event for the men's team, while the women's team saw 4 place in the top-10 in their respective events.

Women: Chyra Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y./ Roosevelt) competed in three events, earning 11th in the 100 meter at 14.48 seconds, 20th in the 200 meter at 31.25 seconds and 9th in the triple jump with a mark of 4.13. Deja Glover (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) would place 20th in the 200 meter with a time of 37.12 and 17th in the 100 meter in 17.49.

Elizabeth Rose would compete in the two events, claiming 11th in the 400 meter with a time of 1:09.93 and 20th in the 800 meter at 2:46.99. Leah Lloyd claimed 1st in her highlight victory in the 1500 meter, while also earning 8th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:33.24. Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) would compete in three events for the Lakers, placing 7th in the shot put with a mark of 9.92m, placing 13th in the discus throw with a mark of 12.28m and placing 6th in the javelin throw with a mark of 18.99m.

Men: Austin Franklin (Hunstville, A.L./ Prince George) would start in three events on the men's side, finishing 13th in the 100 meter at 12.32, 12th in the 200 meter at 25.21 and 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.17m. Jake Williams would put his name into three events, starting with the 200 meter in which he would place 15th with a time of 26.12. Williams would place 13th in the shot put with a mark of 7.26m and 10th in the javelin throw at 27.47m. Freshman Daniel DiSalvo earned a 34th place finish in the 800 meter at 2:25.72, 7th place in the 400 meter hurdle at 1:03.69 and 19th in the 400 meter with a time of 59.06. Teammate Hunter Zanergle would claim 10th in the 400 meter with a time of 52.24, a 5th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.89m and 7th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.96m.

Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) would come away with a 12th place spot in the 1500 meter steeplechase with a time of 4:27.36, a 17th place finish in the 800 meter at 2:06.66 and a 4th place finish in the 10000 meter run at 35:32.62, meeting the NJCAA National qualifying standard. Teammate John Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman) would claim a 6th place finish in the 10000 meter run with a time of 38:12.93 to go along with a 14th place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase at 4:29:38. 

A 4x100 meter relay team of Tyqwan Coles ,Hunter ZangerleMemphis Lohnes and Cameron Rynders would earn a 3rd place finish. Coles would also place 9th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.53m to round out the day. Teammate Cameron Rynders would place 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.56 and 4th in the long jump with a mark of 5.96m. The highlight of the Lakers day on the men's side came from Dillian Hernandez who claimed 1st in the javelin throw, along with an 8th place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.67.
