Lakers Split In Home Opener

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College softball team opened their season on Sunday with a double-header against the SUNY Adirondack Community College Timberwolves. The Lakers won game 1 due to a forfeit, 7-0, and lost game two 17-12 in extra innings.

Game One

After the determination of a forfeit after the game was played, the Lakers won this game, 7-0. The information for game one below, is what happened prior to the forfeit.

Runs started scoring in the very first inning of the day. A double with a runner on from the Timberwolves was the first run to score. The Lakers would hold them to only one run to finish the half-inning. Hannah Capacci led off the inning with a walk. Lilian Chrysler singled, and moved Capacci over to second. Reagan Seelye layed down a sacrifice bunt to move Capacci and Chrysler over. Capacci found her opportunity on a wild pitch, and scored the first run for the Lakers.

The Lakers had a tough second inning, allowing 14 runs, while not being able to score. The score at the end of the second was 15-1. They would put up six more runs in the third and fourth innings, but could not overcome the 14 runs given up. The game ended after five innings.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Megan Lee with a triple and an RBI, Katie Harmon with a triple, and Kalyska Payne who pitched four of the five innings.

 

Game Two

The Timberwolves started out hot in the second game. They scored four runs in the top of the first inning. The Lakers answered back with Capacci scoring off of a single from Harmon. They ended the first inning down, 4-1.

In the third inning, the Lakers allowed one more run, but scored two more. Harmon singled again to score Capacci for the second run of the game from the Lakers. Chrysler scored on a walk with the bases loaded. The Lakers were slowly creeping up on the Timberwolves.

Their biggest inning was the bottom of the seventh. They were down 11-6. The Lakers scored five runs, to tie the game. Deanna Palmer hit one to the shortstop which scored Clare Kingsfield to start off the rally. Capacci found her way across the plate for the third time this game after Seelye ripped a double to centerfield. Malori Waag scored from the same hit. Harmon kept her hot streak going, and doubled, scoring Trinity Maestre. The tying run was scored by Harmon off of a grounder to second from Karena Ward.

The final scoring happened in the ninth inning. SUNY Adirondack scored six runs, and the Lakers could not catch up. The final score was 17-12.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Harmon with a double and three RBI's, Seelye with a double and two RBI's, and Capacci with a triple, five runs scored, and two stolen bases. Seelye was on the mound for the entire game and had three strikeouts.

The Lakers will play next at home on Thursday, March 25th. They will play a double-header against Jefferson Community College starting at 3:00pm.
