Softball falls to undefeated Corning CC

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College softball team hosted Corning Community College for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, and the Lakers dropped both games to the undefeated Red Barons.

FLCC (2-12) battled hard and only trailed 4-1 heading to the fifth inning in the opener. But Corning (8-0) pushed across one run in the fifth and four in the sixth en route to a 9-1 victory in six innings.

Freshman Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) allowed only one hit over two scoreless innings to start the opener before surrendering two runs in the third and two more in the fourth inning.

FLCC got on the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth, thanks to a two-out rally. Sophomore Malori Waag (Cherry Creek, NY/Pine Valley) singled, stole second base and scored on Seelye's RBI single into center field.

Sophomore Karena Ward (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) followed up with a single into right field and advanced to second on the throw, giving FLCC runners at second and third with two outs, but the next batter struck out to end the threat. That was the closest the Lakers would get in game one.

Waag, Seelye, Ward and freshman Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, NY/Forestville) each singled in the opener.

In the second game, the Lakers were held to one hit during an 18-0 setback. Sophomore Trinity Maestre (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) had FLCC's lone hit and added a stolen base in the nightcap.

FLCC next hosts Erie Community College in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
