AUBURN, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College softball team traveled to Cayuga Community College for a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, and the Lakers dropped both games by a score of 5-4.
In the opener, sophomore Hannah Capacci (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) tripled as part of a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run scored, classmate Malori Waag (Cherry Creek, NY/Pine Valley) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, and sophomore Karena Ward (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
FLCC (4-16) led 1-0 after the first inning, and 2-1 heading into the third before the Spartans (3-10) pushed across three runs. The Lakers pulled within 4-3 in the fourth inning, and 5-4 after scoring a run in the sixth, but FLCC was unable to complete the comeback.
Freshman Kalyska Payne (Savona, NY/Campbell-Savona) allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits with two strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
In the second game, sophomore Ava Breuer (Fillmore, NY/Fillmore) doubled and drove in two runs, Ward was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Capacci was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base for the Lakers.
Freshman Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with two strikeouts in tossing a complete game for FLCC.
The Lakers trailed 2-0 before striking for two runs in both the third and fourth innings. But the Spartans re-tied the game with a two-run outburst in the fifth and seized the lead on a seventh inning sacrifice fly.
FLCC hosts Niagara County Community College for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. First pitch is slated for noon.
