Softball Falls to Genesee CC on Sophomore Day

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College softball team hosted Genesee Community College for a doubleheader on Sophomore Day Sunday afternoon, and the Lakers dropped both games at their turf complex.

FLCC (8-26) fell 10-2 in six innings in the opener before dropping a 13-5 decision in six innings in game two vs. the Cougars (4-6).

Game One

Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first, the Lakers loaded the bases with only one out in the home half of the inning but couldn't get a run on the board.

It wouldn't take FLCC long to tie the score.

Sophomore Mia Bresadola (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) hit an RBI single to drive home freshman Megan Lee (Waverly, NY/Waverly) with the tying run in the bottom of the second, and the Lakers seized a 2-1 lead on freshman Deanna Palmer's (Auburn, NY/Auburn) single into right field in the bottom of the fourth.

But the Cougars responded with five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to take the opener.

Lee went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, sophomore Hannah Capacci (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Bresadola went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one.

Game Two

Trailing 5-0 heading to the fourth, the Lakers responded with five runs.

Lee hit a one-out single and freshman Kalyska Payne (Savona, NY/Campbell-Savona) followed with a walk, and they both scored when freshman Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) doubled to the gap in right center field.

After Bresadola singled and sophomore Malori Waag (Cherry Creek, NY/Pine Valley) walked to load the bases, Capacci drew a walk that scored Seelye to pull the Lakers within 5-3. Freshman Lilian Chrysler (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) reached on a fielder's choice to make it a one-run game, and freshman Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, NY/Forestville) singled up the middle to plate Capacci and tie the game at 5-all.

But the Cougars answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame and tacked on four more in the sixth to take game two.

Bresadola went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Seelye was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, and Capacci, Chrysler, and Kingsfield each drove in a run for the Lakers.

Before the game, FLCC honored the following sophomores for their commitment and dedication to the softball program: Mia Bresadola, Ava Breuer (Fillmore, NY/Fillmore), Akiya Brewer (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan), Hannah Capacci, Katie Harmon (Churchville, NY/Caledonia-Mumford), Trinity Maestre (Phelps, NY/Midlakes), Lacey Shuttleworth (Scio, NY/Scio), Malori Waag, Karena Ward (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), and Alyn Watts (Naples, NY/Marcus Whitman).

With Sunday's Sophomore Day doubleheader, the Lakers 2021 season has come to an end.
