Softball Arrives in Full Force in Series Sweep

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - The Finger Lakes Community College Softball team had traveled to played Penn State Mont Alto the day before, suffering back-to-back losses in close games. However, the Lakers proved to be resillient, coming out of their shell to secure a sweep against the Vikings of Ocean County Community College Sunday afternoon.

In the Lakers 1st game of two, the team came out on top with a 14-0 victory over the Ocean County Vikings. Lakers pitcher Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./ Thomas A. Edison) put together a dominant performance as a 2-way player. On the pitchers mounds, Seelye pitched a full game, only allowing 3 hits for no runs and 6 strikeouts on the afternoon. Seelye continued her stellar play on the hitters plate, recording 2 hits in 4 at bats, while punching in 3 RBIs in the process. Teammate Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, N.Y./ Forestville) put her skilled baserunning on display, stealing 2 bases in the game.

Megan Lee (Waverly, N.Y./ Waverly) and teammate Peyton Cory (Mexico, N.Y./ Mexico) contributed to the Lakers offensive attack, eaching adding 2 RBIs apiece, while Cory was able to draw 2 walks in her at bats as well. Catcher Deanna Palmer (Auburn, N.Y./ Auburn) scored 3 runs of her own and added a 2 RBI double to help extend the Lakers lead.

The Lakers lineup was in full force on the afternoon, with left fielder Kalyska Payne (Savona, N.Y./ Campbell Savona) going 3 for 3 and driving in a triple in efficent fashion. Respectivelly, Hannah DeArmitt (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) added a 1 RBI single, while teammate Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y./ Livonia) poked in 2 RBIs to round out the scoring.

In the Lakers final game of the doubleheader, the teams hot hand was still on display, with the Lakers erupting for a 16-3 victory of the Vikings to sweep their opponent on the afternoon. Reagan Seelye continued to put the pressure on Ocean County, going 4 for 4, scoring 2 runs and driving in a team-high 5 RBIs. Teammate Clare Kingsfield followed up an impresive game 1 with an even better game 2, going 3 for 4 in at bats, with 4 RBIs, one of which being a home runs to give the Lakers the momentum in a stellar perofrmance.

Catcher Deanna Palmer played a crucial role in the Lakers attack once again, adding 2 RBIs to add to the teams lead. Teammate Kalyska Payne would add 1 RBI while drawing a walk, while Peyton Cory would add 1 RBI in 2 at bats.

Teammates Megan LeeHannah Hoffman (Bath, N.Y./ Haverling), and Hannah DeArmitt would each add 1 RBI apiece to help drive home the victory for the Lakers.

Lakers Softball concludes their road trip on the right foot, as they prepare for the Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College on March 26th for the Lakers home opener with 1 PM/ 3 PM start times.
