Softball Sweeps First Home DH of 2022

CANANDAIGUA — Playing at home for the first time during the 2022 season, the Finger Lakes Community College softball team swept Jamestown Community College Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) singled home freshman Peyton Cory (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Lakers to a come-from-behind, 6-5 win over the Jayhawks in game one of the home-opening doubleheader.

FLCC (4-2) then completed the sweep with a 9-3 win in game two as eight different Lakers recorded at least one hit in the win over Jamestown (0-3).

The Lakers trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning in game one, but sophomore Kalyska Payne (Savona, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) had an RBI bunt single and Seeley delivered an RBI single during a two-run third, and Cory had an RBI single and Seelye belted a two-run double to spark the Lakers during a three-run fifth inning.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the ninth. Cory reached on an error, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored the winning run when Seeley dropped a single into center field.

The Lakers recorded 11 hits in the opener, led by Seeley's 3-for-4 performance with four RBI. Payne was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Cory was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, and sophomore Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) went 2-for-4 with a run scored for FLCC in its home opener.

Seelye struck out 10 and allowed five runs (four earned) on only four hits to improve her record to 2-1.

In game two, Seelye went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) drove in three runs, and Marczyk went 2-for-3 with a run scored to fuel the Lakers.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third, FLCC's bats broke through for five runs in the inning. Seelye drew a bases-loaded walk, sophomore Deanna Palmer (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) hit an RBI single, and Weigert cleared the bases with a three-run single as the Lakers took the lead for good.

Payne allowed three runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts to improve her record to 2-1.

FLCC hits the road next weekend, traveling to Erie Community College (April 2) and Onondaga Community College (April 3).
