Softball Splits DH with Erie CC

The Finger Lakes Community College softball team earned a split of Saturday's doubleheader against Erie Community College.

The Lakers (5-3, 3-1 Region III) dropped an 11-3 decision in five innings of Game One before responding with a balanced attack during a 6-5 win in Game Two to salvage the split with the Kats.

Sophomore Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) doubled and drove in two runs and classmate Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) added a single and drove in a run in the opener for FLCC.

In the second game, the Lakers trailed 3-1 and 4-2 before rallying for two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to clinch the win.

Sophomore Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, N.Y./Forestville) led off the fifth with a single, then following two strikeouts, the Lakers recorded three straight base hits from Seelye, sophomore Deanna Palmer (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) and Weigert to pull FLCC even at 4.

After Erie CC pushed across a run in the top of the sixth, Seelye then led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and scored on an error to tie the score at 5. With one out and Palmer on second, sophomore Megan Lee (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) dropped a single into right-center field to score Palmer with the game-winning run as the Lakers walked off with a 6-5 triumph.

Sophomore Kalyska Payne (Savona, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) earned the win, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits with zero walks and five strikeouts over seven effective innings.

The Lakers return home to play Genesee Community College at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in a doubleheader on FLCC's turf softball field.
