AUBURN, N.Y. - The Lakers traveled to Auburn, N.Y. yesterday, April 9th to take on the Spartans of Cayuga Community College in a Region III doubleheader matchup. The team would struggle collectively to put runs on the board, with the Spartans completing the sweep in a 10-2 victory in game 1 and a 9-0 victory in game 2.
Game 1
First baseman Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, N.Y./ Forestville) would put together a productive game, batting in her at-bats, going 2 for 2, drawing a walk, and putting her baserunning on display with 1 stolen base. Teammate Deanna Palmer (Auburn, N.Y./ Auburn) went 1 for 2 in at-bats, scoring a run in the process.
Shortstop Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) would put together an impressive performance, going 2 for 2 in at-bats and bringing home 2 Lakers with 2 RBI in the game. However, the Lakers' scoring would end there, dropping game 1, 10-2.
Game 2
Spartans pitcher Lexi Cotrill, who started both games of the doubleheader, thwarted any attempts made by the Lakers. Peyton Cory (Mexico, N.Y./ Mexico) drew a walk on Cotrill, while teammate Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./ Thomas A. Edison) would go 1 for 3 with a single hit in the game. The Lakers would struggle to put anything together, ultimately dropping game 2 by a score of 9-0.
