CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Softball team hosted the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College Thursday, April 14th in a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III contest.
Game 1
In a 5-inning finish, the Hawks would come out firing, putting up 5 runs in the 1st inning. However, the Lakers would narrow the gap in the bottom of the 1st, with two on, Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./ Elmira) hit a 2 RBI double to centerfield to bring home teammates Megan Lee (Waverly, N.Y./ Waverly) and Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, N.Y./ Forestville).
The Lakers would narrow the gap to 5-2 off from Seelye's double. However, the Hawks would halt a Lakers comeback, scoring 10 straight runs, and holding the Lakers scoreless for the next 4 innings.
Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) would finish 1 for 2, adding a double to left field in the bottom of the 4th to bring Deanna Palmer (Auburn, N.Y./ Auburn) into scoring position. However, a fielder's choice would end the inning for the Lakers.
The team would drop game 1 to Mohawk Valley Community College, by a score of 15-2.
Game 2
Clare Kingsfield and Deanna Palmer would each go 1 for 2 at the plate in game 2.
Palmer would hit a double to left-center field in the top of the 2nd inning, but a ground out and strikeout would end the inning. In the top of the 3rd, Clare Kingsfield would hit a triple to right-center field with 2 outs but would be left on base after a Laker strikeout.
Kalyska Payne (Savona, N.Y./ Campbell-Savona) would earn the start on the mound, picking up 5 strikeouts on the night. The Lakers would ultimately drop game 2 by a score of 9-0 in 5 innings
The Lakers have a quick turnaround, as they will play the Timberwolves of SUNY Adirondack tomorrow, April 15th in a doubleheader, with the first pitch at 5 PM.
