Softball Sweeps Jayhawks at Home to Improve to 4-0

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.Lakers softball improved to 4-0 with a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College. The Lakers continued to put pressure on their opponents with an all-around strong hitting performance.

Game 1 vs. Jamestown

Lakers softball extended their winning streak to three games with a 16-8 mercy rule finish in game one of their doubleheader. Sophomore pitcher Reagan Seelye (Elmira Height, N.Y./ Thomas A. Edison) pitched a full game to earn her second win of the season, striking out 9 batters over 5 innings.

The Lakers would trade punches early on in what turned out to be a back-and-forth affair. The Jayhawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, however, the Lakers would battle back in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead into the second.

The Jayhawks made the score 3-all in the top of the second inning before a 5-run third inning and 4-run fourth inning helped cap off a 16-8 finish in favor of the Lakers.

The highlight of the game came in the fourth inning, with the Lakers leading 10-8. Freshman Natalie Lecceardone (Manchester, N.Y./ Red Jacket) would come up big in what was a close game and hit a 2-run inside the park home run to center field to give the Lakers momentum.

Lecceardone would finish 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Lecceardone's RBI total was matched by teammate Mackenzie Johnson-Boser (Dansville, N.Y./ Dansville) who would drive in three runs on a 2-of-4 hitting performance.

Freshman Aubrey Roberts (Cobleskill, N.Y./ Cobleskill Richmondville) would drive in 2 RBI while Cheyenne Cotton (Nunda, N.Y./ Keshequa) and Reagan Seelye each would contribute an RBI a piece. Cotton would triple in the game while Seelye's hit was good for a double.

Game 2 vs. Jamestown

After taking care of business in game one, the Lakers would jump out to an early lead thanks in part to sophomore Mackenzie Johnson-Boser who hit a 3 RBI double to bring home teammates Peyton Cory (Mexico, N.Y./ Mexico), Haleigh Weyrauch (Deposit, N.Y./ Hancock), and Aubrey Roberts in the first inning.

Johnson-Boser would finish the day with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate and 2 runs scored.

Natalie Lecceardone helped push the Lakers to an 8-run advantage in the top half of the fifth with a 2 RBI single to make the score 12-3. Teammate Cheyenne Cotton would drive her home on a triple before a Jayhawks error would bring her home as well for the fifth and final run of the inning. Aubrey Roberts would close the door on the game, holding the Jayhawks scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to secure the mercy-rule finish; the team's fourth in four games.

Roberts would earn her second win of the season in the game, striking out 6 batters and allowing 2 earned runs to round out a strong performance on the mound.

The Lakers are back on their home turf for a 3/5 PM doubleheader with the visiting Thunderwolves from Niagara County Community College on Thursday, March 30th. The Laker's home stretch will continue from there with three straight home doubleheaders before embarking on the road for four-straight doubleheaders.
