Softball Falls to Hudson Valley at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team hosted the visiting Hudson Valley Community College Vikings Saturday afternoon for a NJCAA Region III contest at FLCC's Softball Turf Facility. Despite a strong effort from the Lakers, the Vikings came out swinging and put their throwing arms on display, holding the Lakers to just 3 runs across the two games of their doubleheader.

Game one vs. Hudson Valley

The two teams traded runs in the first inning before the Vikings exploded for 3 runs in the second innings to give them a 4-1 advantage. The Vikings would go on to hold the Lakers scoreless for the remainder of the game; tacking on 5 runs in the seventh inning for insurance.

The Lakers were led by Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y./ Thomas A. Edison) who had a 2-for-3 performance at the plate while driving in the Lakers lone run on a double. Sophomore Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) was efficient at her time on the plate, going 2-for-4 in the game.

Game two vs. Hudson Valley

The Lakers broke the scoring open in game one with 1 run in the first inning on a RBI single from Reagan Seelye that brought home teammate Cheyenne Cotton (Nunda, N.Y./ Keshequa). However, the Vikings kept their momentum rolling into game two as they would go on to hold the Lakers to one run beyond that first inning while tacking on 3 runs in the second, 4 runs in the third, and 3 runs in the fourth in route to a 11-2 finale.

The Lakers second run of the game was brought home on a sacrifice bunt from freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville), scoring the pinch runner Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor). Leading the Lakers in the hit column was freshman Cheyenne Cotton who tripled in a 2-for-3 effort.

The Lakers are back on their home turf tomorrow, April 22nd for sophomore day against the SUNY Broome Community College Hornets. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 PM.
