Softball Battles at Home with Conference Opponent

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team hosted the Jefferson Community Cannoneers for a Mid-State Athletic Conference game on the Laker home turf.

Game one vs. Jefferson

The Lakers dropped game one to the Cannoneers in a lopsided 14-3 finish. The Lakers broke the scoring open in the first inning, scoring one run before the Cannoneers answered in the top of the second with 4-runs before scoring one in the fourth and exploded for 9 runs in the fifth. The Lakers would attempt to mount a comeback, scoring 3-runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but would fall short, dropping game one.

Sophomore Reagan Seelye (Elmira Heights, N.Y/Thomas A. Edison) led the Lakers in the hit column, collecting 2 hits over 3 at-bats, and driving in the Lakers 3-runs of the game. Freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndonville) went 1-for-1 with a walk, teammate Cheyenne Cotton (Nunda, N.Y./Keshequa) finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Skyllar Weigert (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) would round out the day with a run scored with a hit in 2 at-bats.

Game two vs. Jefferson

The Lakers tacked on two runs in the top of the first inning in game two, however, the Cannoneers would rally to tie the game with a run in the first and third. The Cannoneers would take the lead on a 2 out single to left field to go ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Cannoneers looked to put a cap on the game with a 2 run sixth inning, but the Lakers would fall just short with a 2-run seventh inning to drop game two, 5-4.

Freshman Aubrey Roberts (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) had a career day, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, with one of her hits being a triple. Sophomore Reagan Seelye would have a strong game two, going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the game.

Teammate Skyllar Weigert and Cheyenne Cotton would each collect hits to round out the Lakers performance.

The Lakers put up a valiant effort, going toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in Region III in their last home game of the season. The team moves to 12-14 and will look ahead to their next matchup on the road with the Generals of Herkimer College on Friday, April 28th. The first pitch of their doubleheader is slated for 3 PM.
