Season Preview: Softball

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - As the 2024 season dawns, the Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) softball team, led by first-year head coach Frank Clark, is poised for another exciting season. The team blends incoming talent with a pair of returning sophomores for this year's campaign.

The team welcomed incoming freshmen Logan Roberts, Madison Anderson, Cassidy Loveless, Lauren Pilon, Ava Recktenwald, Sarah Makitra, and Sierra West. They're joined by transfers Joelle Jay and Kelsey Payne, and sophomore newcomer, Georgia Luft. Returning from last year are sophomores Aubrey Roberts and Natalie Lecceardone who will bring significant experience to the Lakers squad. Coach Clark praises their influence, "they are two of the hardest workers in practice and they are doing a great job of being mentors to the incoming group".

With aspirations to elevate the team's performance and to get the most out of the group, Coach Clark has set clear objectives for this year's squad, "the expectation is to work hard each day to continue to improve in all aspects of the game". The Lakers' foundation rests on three pillars: leadership, team culture, and work ethics. For Coach Clark's squad, those elements are already evident as they prepare for the season, "our skills continue to improve both offensively and defensively," said Clark.

Beyond athletics, the Lakers prioritize their work in the classroom and focus on team unity "Being students first – academics will always be our number one focus," emphasizes Clark. Moreover, cultivating team unity and bonding has been the most crucial piece for Clark, "Creating a sisterhood on and off the field...When you like who you work with and respect them, you tend to work harder".

As the start of the 2024 season approaches, the Lakers are poised to work hard on the field and in the classroom. With a blend of fresh talent, experienced leadership, and a focus on core values, the FLCC softball team is primed for a season filled with success, challenges, and growth. The Lakers open the season on Friday, March 29th at home against Northampton Community College for a 3 PM and 5 PM doubleheader at the FLCC Softball Turf Facility.
