Jay Shines in Lakers Road Battle With Lazers

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team dropped their first road games of the year to conference foe Onondaga Community College Saturday afternoon. The Lakers, who opened up against Northampton just a day ago would have a quick turnaround for their doubleheader with the Lazers. The Lakers would drop game one 12-3 before falling in game two 12-4.

Freshman Joelle Jay (Macedon, N.Y./Victor) was a bright spark for FLCC, continuing her impressive form at the plate. Jay would send one out of the park to drive in a run for the Lakers. Teammate Aubrey Roberts (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill Richmondville) also performed well, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Cassidy Loveless (Marion, N.Y./Marion) and Ava Recktenwald (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) each contributed with hits, with Loveless hitting a double and Recktenwald adding an RBI. Freshman Madison Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) proved resilient in the circle, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out four batters.

In game two, Kelsey Payne (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Joelle Jay led the way with standout performances at the plate. Payne reached base in all of her plate appearances, scoring two runs and adding a hit and a walk to her tally. Jay continued her impressive production, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base. The duo's consistent hitting and efficiency at the plate were bright spots for the team in game two.

Sophomore Aubrey Roberts also scored a run with a hit and an RBI. Freshman Lauren Pilon (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) and Cassidy Loveless each drove in a run, with Pilon adding a hit to her efforts. On the pitching side, Aubrey Roberts and Kelsey Payne shared the duties in the circle. Roberts would strike out two batters over three innings, while Payne provided two innings of relief allowing just one earned run and striking out a batter.

The Lakers will look to bounce back in their next doubleheader on the road next Tuesday, April 2nd at Monroe Community College. The Lakers and Tribunes will face for the first time this season in a 3 PM and 5 PM doubleheader.
