Softball Drops Region Doubleheader to Mohawk Valley

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team welcomed the visiting Hawks from Mohawk Valley Community College to campus for a Region III doubleheader on the FLCC Softball Turf Thursday afternoon.

The Lakers struggled to find their footing in game one, falling by a score of 9-0 in five innings. It wasn't until game two that the Lakers would find their rhythm, jumping out to a commanding 8-0 lead in the first. Sophomore Aubrey Roberts (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill Richmondville) led the charge, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a double, and one run scored. Teammates Joelle Jay (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Natalie Lecceardone (Manchester, N.Y./Red Jacket) would each pick up a double, going 1-for-2 in the game, with Lecceardone finishing the game with two RBIs to her name.

Freshman Lauren Pilon (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) had an impressive game, finishing 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and a triple. Catcher Kelsey Payne (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) would go 2-for-2 with an RBI, while classmate Ava Recktenwald (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) knocked in a run, going  1-for-1 at the plate.

The game was called in the top of the second inning due to injury, giving Mohawk Valley 7-0 forfeit victory in the nightcap. The Lakers turn around for a road game at Erie Community College this Friday, April 12th for a 3 PM and 5 PM doubleheader with the Kats.
