Lakers Drop Twin Bill to Herkimer

HERKIMER, N.Y. - The Lakers suffered a tough loss on the road to Herkimer County Community College Friday afternoon as they dropped their twin bill against the host Herkimer Generals. The Lakers dropped game one, 10-2, before dropping the nightcap, 15-4.

Shortstop Joelle Jay (Macedon, N.Y./Victor) was a bright spot in the lineup, delivering a powerful performance with a home run and driving in both of the Lakers' runs for the game. Teammate Aubrey Roberts (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill Richmondville) contributed at the plate and on the mound, hitting a double and securing a stolen base. Teammate Kelsey Payne (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added two hits, while Cassidy Loveless (Marion, N.Y./Marion) and Natalie Lecceardone (Manchester, N.Y./Red Jacket) each added a hit, adding to the team's 8 total for the game.

Defensive struggles highlighted game two as the Lakers faced a 15-4 defeat to the Generals. Sophomore Natalie Lecceardone stood out with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate with a walk, two runs, and a stolen base. Teammate Maddie Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) added a hit and drove in two runs while earning the start at pitcher. Sophomore Aubrey Roberts, who split her time between first base and pitching, drove in a run, while teammates Ava Recktenwald (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Logan Roberts (Friendship, N.Y./Friendship) each added a hit.

The Lakers are approaching the conclusion of their regular season as they hit the road for two games next week, first, against SUNY Niagara on Tuesday, April 30th at 3 PM, followed by Monroe Community College on Thursday, May 2nd at 3 PM. The Lakers will conclude the season at home and celebrate sophomore day on Friday, May 3rd against Tompkins Cortland Community College at 3 PM.
