Lakers Gain Steam Over Genesee Cougars

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team gained a big win against the Genesee Community College Cougars on Tuesday. The Lakers won 55-47.

The Lakers took down the Division II Cougars in a tough battle on Tuesday night. The scoring was started off by the Cougars in the first quarter with a three pointer from Lisbeth Pineda Polanco. Freshman Becca Reeves came right back with her own three pointer, tying the game again. It was a back and forth battle for the lead in the first quarter, but the Lakers would just squeak by at the end 17-16.

The Lakers continued their scoring, and started up some great defense in the second quarter. The Lakers held the Cougars to only eight points, while they score 16 more. This pushed their lead to 33-24 at the half.

The Cougars came out of the locker room with something to prove. They really amped up their scoring, ending the quarter scoring ten more points. It still was not enough to get the lead, as the Lakers scored 13 more points.

The Cougars were coming back hot going into the final quarter. They managed to outscore the Lakers 13-9. With excellent effort, it still would not bring them into the lead, and the Lakers took the game.

The Lakers shot 24-72 in the field, giving them a 33.3 field goal percentage. The Cougars shot 18-67 giving them a 26.9 field goal percentage.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Sarah Lacey with 24 points, 16 rebounds, and two blocks, and Jamonie Cole with eight points, and six assists.

The Lakers would move on to play the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings on Saturday, December 1st.
