Women's Basketball Takes First Conference Loss

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team played their first game back from break on Thursday. They faced another Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) team, SUNY Broome Community College Hornets. The Hornets would give the Lakers their first MSAC loss, 65-31.

The Lakers had a tough time getting their groove back from their holiday break against the Hornets. In the beginning of the game, they managed to fall behind 16-2 after some missed shots. They finished the first quarter down 19-4.

The Lakers turned on the gas and came back in the second quarter to score 11 points and hold the hornets to only seven. Coming back from halftime, the Hornets sealed their winning fate by scoring 20 more points in the third quarter, keeping the Lakers to only four.

The two teams finished out the fourth quarter scoring 19-12, in favor of the Hornets making the final 65-31.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Eliana Mitchell with eight points, and seven rebounds, and Amari Grady with six points, and nine rebounds.

The Lakers will go for redemption to Jefferson Community College on Saturday, January 12th. They will start Tip-Off at 1:00pm.
