First Half Lead Not Enough Over the Hawks

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball fell on their first game of the weekend on Saturday against the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks. The Lakers lost 92-66.

The score does not quite show how well the Lakers played in the first half. In the first quarter, the Lakers stayed with the Hawks until about 3:28 left in the quarter. They finished the first quarter 18-11 in favor of the Hawks. The second quarter of the game is where the Lakers came alive. Hannah Gent made a huge three point shot to put them down by only three. The girls kept up the intensity and got ahead of the Hawks with another shot from Gent at 3:28 left in the half. With the fight to grab the lead before halftime, the teams tied up, 43-43 going into the locker room.

After halftime, the Lakers seemed to lose their steam. The Hawks outscored the Lakers in the third quarter 19-9. It was the same story in the fourth quarter of the game. The Hawks outscored the Lakers again, 30-14. The final score was 92-66.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Gent with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal, Elianna Mitchell with 15 points, two assists, and three steals, and Brandy Morrison with seven points, thirteen rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block.

The Lakers would play again on Sunday, November 17th at home. They faced the Herkimer Generals at 12:00pm.
