Women's Basketball Falls To Cannoneers

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team dropped another loss on Saturday to the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers. The Lakers lost 68-57.

The game started off pretty back and forth for both the Cannoneers and the Lakers. The first two points of the game were made by the Cannoneers. Becca Reeves came right back and sunk a three pointer to the put the Lakers in the lead 3-2. As the first quarter went on, the Cannoneers were making their lead bigger and bigger. The Lakers finished the first quarter down 19-14.

In the second quarter, the Lakers managed to score more than they did in the first. The Cannoneers, however, had their best quarter of the game. They scored a total of 24 more points which put them even more in the lead. Both teams went into their locker rooms with a score of 43-32.

In the third quarter, the Lakers upped their defense and limited the Cannoneers to 16 points. The Lakers scored only 15 more so they had some more work to do. They ended the quarter with the Cannoneers still in the lead, 59-47.

The Lakers were prepared for a fight to the end in the fourth quarter. The Lakers held the Cannoneers to only nine points in the final quarter. Jaylea Ransom started out the scoring for the Lakers in this quarter. With just under four minutes left, the Lakers started pressing heavily and gained some key turnovers. The turnovers helped cut the deficit. After a tough quarter, the Lakers still couldn't catch up and lost 68-57.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Abigail DeFisher with 19 points and four blocks, Nevaeh Mack with eight points and five assists, and Brandy Morrison with six points and 11 rebounds.

The Lakers will play next on Thursday, January 16th. They will play Corning Community College at home at 5:30pm.
