Women's Basketball Drops One To Red Barons

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team played a tough one against the Corning Community College Red Barons on Thursday. The Lakers lost 55-42.

The Lakers made a splash when it came to the first points of the game. Hannah Gent came up big with a three-pointer to start everything off. They started to fall off a little from there. The Lakers managed to catch up and make it a one-point game to end the first quarter, but Autumn Edwards from the Red Barons made a final second layup to give them a three-point lead.

The second quarter was the most exciting of the game for the Lakers. The Red Barons continued to score, but the Lakers were creeping right up on them. With 4:27 left in the quarter, Aaliyah Beverly made a three-pointer to finally tie up the score. Soon after, Becca Reeves was fouled and made one her of free throws to put the Lakers in the lead. From there it was back and forth until the end of the half. Both teams went into the locker room with a tied score of 23-23.

The third quarter was rough for the Lakers. They only managed to score five points while the Red Barons had their best quarter of the game. The Red Barons put up 21 points to push them into a pretty big lead.

In the fourth quarter the Lakers kicked it up a little. They outscored the Red Barons by three points, but that would not be enough to get them the win. The Red Barons won the game 55-42.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Gent with 12 points, Jaylea Ransom with seven points, and Brandy Morrison with six points and 12 rebounds.

The Lakers will play again on Saturday at home against the Cayuga Community College Spartans. They will play at 1:00pm.
