Women's Basketball Grabs First Conference Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball grabbed their first conference win against the Cayuga Community College Spartans on Saturday. The Lakers won 74-66.

The first quarter was the biggest quarter for the Lakers. Hannah Gent started off the game the same way she did earlier on in the week, with a made three-pointer. The Lakers took the score and ran with it from there. At the end of the quarter, the Lakers had a 57.9 field-goal percentage. The score was 28-9.

The Spartans started to score in the second quarter. They scored 17 points, two more points than the Lakers did in the quarter. The big jump in points still wouldn't be enough to grab the lead going into halftime. The Lakers were up 43-26.

The third quarter is where the Spartans really started gaining momentum. They scored 22 points. The Lakers scored their lowest of the game with only 13 points. The Lakers were starting to feel the comeback coming from the Spartans.

In the fourth quarter the Lakers were still playing fast. They still had the lead at the end of the quarter, but they were playing like they were the ones trailing. Both teams ended up scoring 18 points in the final quarter. The Lakers held onto their lead and won 74-66.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Abigail DeFisher with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks, Navaeh Mack with 15 points, three assists, and Amari Grady with 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, and four steals.

The Lakers will play again on Wednesday, January 22nd at Onondaga Community College. They will play at 5:00pm.
