Women's Basketball Gets Second Conference Win Over Panthers

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team earned their second conference win on Saturday against the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers. The Lakers won 67-52.

It was a change in pace for the Lakers on Saturday. They started off the game with a lead. Nevaeh Mack made a three-pointer three minutes into the first quarter to put the Lakers in the lead. They would keep this lead throughout the rest of the quarter. They finished the first leading 15-12.

To start off the second quarter, Jaylea Ransom made another three-pointer to push their lead even further. The scoring became a little scarcer in the second quarter. The Lakers only allowed six points from Panthers. The Lakers kept up their pace and scored 13 more points. This would put the score at 28-18 going into halftime.

The Lakers put up big numbers in the third quarter. They only managed to score three more points than the Panthers, but their big lead going into halftime kept them on top to finish the quarter. The Lakers were leading 48-35.

The Lakers kept their same pace again in the fourth quarter. They scored one less point, but kept the Panthers at their same 17 points. Their lead was just too big for the Panthers, and the Lakers came out on top, 67-52.

Game leaders for the Lakers were Abigail DeFisher with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks, and Becca Reeves was right behind her with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

The Lakers look to get another win on Wednesday, January 29th. They will play at home against SUNY Broome Community College at 5:30pm.
