Lakers Put Up Fight Against Regional Opponent

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team suffered a tough loss to the Tribunes of Monroe Community College in their season opener. The Lakers drop their first game, with a final score of 60-32 in favor of the Tribunes. 

The Tribunes jumped out quick, taking a 16-4 lead into the 2nd quarter of the game. Freshman Mary Ellen Querrie (Romulus, N.Y./ Romulus) led all scorers after the first quarter, adding 4 points. At the half, the Tribunes took a 30-15 lead going into the break.

Late in the 3rd quarter, the Lakers rallied back to the bring the game within reach, 38-25, after a 3-point make from Mary Ellen Querrie. However, the Tribunes attack extended their lead heading into the 4th quarter. The Lakers offense struggled to find a rhythm in the 4th quarter, scoring 3 points to the Tribunes 14.

Mary Ellen Querrie led all scorers with 17 points and Freshman guard Mackenzie Johnson-Boser (Dansville, N.Y./ Dansville) led the Lakers in rebounds, pulling down 10.

Women's Basketball looks to rebound after a tough loss in the season opener when the Katz of Erie Community College travel to Finger Lakes Community College for a Regional matchup on November 6th in a 1 P.M. matchup.
