Lakers Pick Up Dominating First Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season under new Head Coach Mike Broderick. The Lakers battled in their home game against the Kats of Erie Community College. After dropping their first game of the season, the Lakers were determined to pull out a big win. The Lakers did just that, dominating on both ends of the floor, in route to a 57-33 win. With the win over their Regional opponent,the Lakers improved to 1-1 on the season. 

Head Coach Mike Broderick had a lot to be proud of in the win "The girls played very well today and I am very proud of them. They played team ball at both ends of the floor and it resulted in a great team victory. I feel blssed to coach such a great group of girls who work hard and play for each other. We will have our hands full in our next match with North Country Community College, as they are the defending Region III Champions, they are a talented group with great depth".  Broderick has developed a squad with great potential on the early season, with much to look forward to.

Freshman Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) played a huge role for the Lakers, adding 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 9 steals for a double-double. Freshman Mary Ellen Querrie (Romulus, N.Y./ Romulus) paced the Lakers offense, adding 18 points while also adding 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals on the defensive end.

The Lakers offense and defense was relentless in the first quarter, allowing the Lakers to jump out to a commanding 13-0 lead.

Sophomore Izabella Santell (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) was a big contributor on the offensive side of the ball, adding 17 points, 5 offensive and 4 defensive rebounds and 1 steal on the night. 

The Lakers have a quick turnaround as they are at home for their next game against North Country Community College on Sunday November 7th at 12 P.M. The Lakers looks to build off from their convincing win in their game against the Saints.
