Lakers Fall to the Saints

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team dropped to 1-2 after suffering a tough loss to the Saints of North Country Community College. The Lakers knew the game was going to be a battle with the defending Region III, Division III champions, falling 75-43. 

The Saints put the pressure on in the game, taking a 24-13 lead in the 1st-quarter. The Lakers struggled offensively in the 2nd-quarter, as the Saints defense held the Lakers to 9 points to take a 37-22 lead into the break. The Saints defense came with more intensity after the break, holding the Lakers to 5 points in the 3rd-quarter, taking a 63-27 lead into the final quarter of play. The Saints pulled away in the fourth quarter to hold off the Lakers and come away with the win.

In 39 minutes of play, Freshman Mary Ellen Querrie (Romulus, N.Y./ Romulus) led all scorers with 13 points, while also pulling down 9 rebounds to lead the team. Sophomore Izabella Santell (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) led the charge with Querrie offensively, contributing 13 points as well, while also adding 1 rebound and 1 steal to her total.

Freshman Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) played both sides of the floor, dropping 10 points and 2 assists offensively, while pulling down 3 rebounds and snagging 2 steals in the process.

The Lakers look to get back on track Saturday, November 13th when they travel to Mohawk Valley Community College for a 1 P.M. match.
