Generals Knock off Laker in Region III Matchup

HERKIMER, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team travelled to Herkimer College on Sunday, November 14th in a Region III matchup with the Generals.

The Lakers struggled on the offensive end to find a rhythm, ultimately, with the Generals running away with the game, defeating the Lakers 70-39. With the loss, the Lakers drop to 2-3 against a talented squad.  

Head Coach Mike Broderick stated, "the girls played with a lot of heart today against a very talented basketball team", after going 1-1 on their road trip, Broderick stated "I am very proud of their effort this weekend on the road" after their back-to-back contests.

Lakers Freshman guard Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) continued her stellar play from yesterday's contest against Mohawk Valley Community College. Andersen added 12 points, dished out 1 assist and pulled down 6 offensive rebounds. Andersen showed up strong on the defensive end, pulling down 5 defensive rebounds and grabbing 4 steals on the afternoon. 

Freshman Mary Ellen Querrie (Romulus, N.Y./ Romulus) played a big role for the Lakers adding 12 points, 1 assist and 2 defensive rebounds, while grabbing 2 steals on the defensive end. Freshman Abby Nelson (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) added 6 points and 5 offensive rebounds, while pulling in 1 defensive rebound and a steal a piece. 

Sophomore guard Izabella Santell (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) came up big on the defensive end, grabbing 3 steals and pulling down 5 defensive rebounds. Santell also added 1 offensive rebound and 5 points on the day.

The Lakers have one more game remaining in their 3-game road trip, as the Lakers travel to Roberts Wesleyan college on Wednesday, November 17th for a 7 PM matchup against the Roberts Wesleyan JV. The Lakers will then have a 4-game homestand, looking to capitalize on the homecourt advantage going forward.
