Lakers Fall Short in Conference Matchup

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team dropped a key Conference matchup against the Panthers of Tompkins Cortland Community College Thursday night, 45-41. The loss gives the Lakers their 5th straight, as the team has struggled to find their rhythm. The Lakers led 38-35 at the half, however, they struggled to hold off the Panthers attack. On the offensive end, the Lakers struggled in the 4th quarter, with the Panthers outscoring the Lakers 17 to 6.

Sophomore Izabella Santell (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) paced the Lakers offense, adding 17 points, 4 assists and 2 offensive rebounds. On defense, Santell pulled down 1 defensive rebound and blocked 2 shots on the night. Teammate Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) had an impressive night, recording a double-double in the matchup with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Andersen recorded 2 assists on the night while also pulling in an impressive 6 steals on defense. 

Freshman Abby Nelson (North Rose, N.Y./ North Rose-Wolcott) added 5 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists while also recording a block and steal apiece. Freshman center Alicia Morrison (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) added 3 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal, while teammate Ericka Moody (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) had an impressive perfomance, adding 4 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block on the night.

The Lakers struggles continue as the team falls to 2-7 and 0-1 in conference play. The Lakers return to play in the Putt Moore Gymnasium at Finger Lakes Community College in a 5 PM matchup on December 8th against the Vikings of Villa Maria.
