Red Barons Pull Away From Lakers in Conference Matchup

CORNING, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Basketball team was on the road Thursday night to take on a Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent in the Corning Community College Red Barons. The Red Barons attacked proved too much for the Lakers, as the team dropped their matchup, 50-30.

Freshman Mary Ellen Querrie (Romulus, N.Y./ Romulus) led the charge for the Lakers on the offensive end of the ball. On 5-18 shooting Querrie dropped in 14 points while setting up her teammates with 2 assists on the night. Querrie registered 2 steals in the matchup on the defensive end and her 10 total rebounds were good for a double-double. Teammate Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) worked alongside Querrie at the guard position, adding 8 points to her total, while pulling in 4 total rebounds on the night. Andersen was a force on the defensive end, registering a team-high 5 steals on the night.

The Lakers saw scoring from Freshman Mackenzie Johnson-Boser (Dansville, N.Y./ Dansville) who added 5 points while pulling in 5 rebounds and dishing out a single assist on the evening. Teammate Abby Nelson (North Rose, N.Y./ North Rose-Wolcott) scored 2 points for the Lakers and 5 pulled in 5 rebounds, while start Ericka Moody (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) played a key role for the Lakers on defense, pulling down 7 rebounds.

In a quick turnaround, the Lakers at home in second-straight Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup with the Spartans of Cayuga Community College on Saturday, January 15th at 1 PM. The Lakers look to avenge their loss in their matchup against a conference opponent in which they are good for a 8-2 record in their last 10 games.
