Late Comeback Falls Short at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers hosted Roberts Wesleyan JV on Monday night in a non-region showdown on the Putt Moore Court.

The two teams played a competitive first-half, and were tied 18-18 at the break. The Redhawks pulled away in the second-half and would eventually come away with an 8-point, 57-49 victory over the Lakers. For the Lakers, sophomore Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) put together a monster game, pouring in 21 points, while pulling down 7 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists, and snagging 4 steals. Followed by Andersen in the scoring column was fellow sophomore Allaysha Grady (Sodus, N.Y./ Sodus) who added 9 points. Grady added to her stat line with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 4 steals.

Freshman Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) earned the start, playing 29 minutes against the Redhakws. Robson would score 6 points, dish out 2 assists, grab 2 rebounds, and snag 1 steal in game. Freshman Brittany Cooper (Odessa, N.Y./ Odessa-Montour) came off the bench and hit some big shots for the Lakers, including a clutch 3-pointer in the 3rd-quarter to tie the game 27 apiece with 5 minutes to go. In the 4th-quarter, Cooper would cash in another 3-pointer to narrow the Redhawks lead 42-35 with 7 minutes to go in the game. Cooper would finish with 6 points, a rebound, assist, and steal apiece, to go along with 2 blocks on defense.

Freshman Georgia Luft (Elba, N.Y./ Elba) came up big for the Lakers in several points of the game; serving as the playmaker for the team. Luft would add 5 points, while grabbing 3 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists, and snagging 4 steals; a season-high. Freshman Mikaylah Pocock (Bergen, N.Y./ Byron-Bergen) had a huge game on the boards for the Lakers, pulling down 4 offensive and 8 defensive rebounds on the night. Pocock would also add 4 points, an assist, and a steal to wrap up an impressive night. 

Other contributors for the Lakers included Natalie Edmister (Watkins Glen, N.Y./ Watkins Glen) with 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal and Berit Sack (Buffalo, N.Y./ The Park School) with a rebound and steal on the nght.

The team hits the road for a 1 PM matchup on November 19th at Corning Community College in a NJCAA Region III matchup with the Red Barons. The Lakers will wrap up their last contest before Thanksgiving break at home on November 22nd against Niagara County Community College at 5:30 PM.
