CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team hosted Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent SUNY Broome Tuesday night on the Putt Moore Court at FLCC. The Hornets, who sat at 2-2 on the season, saw their two losses come by a combined 8 points heading into the matchup.
The Lakers put up a fight against their conference opponent, taking a 27-27 tie into halftime. The Lakers struggled to carry over their first-half momentum as the Hornets would score 8-straight points out of the break. Several attempts to regain the lead were thwarted by the Hornets enroute to a 58-40 decision in favor of the Hornets.
The Lakers were led by an overall impressive performance from sophomore Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) who finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal. Fellow sophomore teammate Allaysha Grady (Sodus, N.Y./ Sodus) led the Lakers in the scoring column with 13 points.
Freshman Georgia Luft (Elba, N.Y./ Elba) earned the start for the Lakers, finishing with 6 points, 1 rebound, and a steal. Teammate Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) added 5 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds in the start and Mikaylah Pocock (Bergen, N.Y./ Byron Bergen) came off the bench and played a solid 17 minutes, shooting 4-7 from the field goof for 8 points. Pocock would add 6 rebounds and a block to her stat line on the night.
The Lakers are back home for a doubleheader matchup with the SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers on Saturday, December 3rd at 12 PM. The Cannoneers currently hold a 4-1 record, awaiting a decision on their matchup Thursday, December 1st against Onondaga Community College. The Lakers will look to pull an upset against a very strong Cannoneers squad.
