Women's Basketball Earns Non-Region Win at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team improved to 4-3 Tuesday evening with a 49-36 victory over the St. John Fisher Cardinals.

Classmates Leah Williams (Olean, N.Y./Olean) and Alissa Mazzye (Oneida, N.Y./Stockbridge Valley) both led the scoring with 12 points each. Williams would go on to collect 6 rebounds while Mazzye proved to be a threat from beyond the arc, hitting 2 of her 5 three-point attempts, while adding 4 rebounds and an assist to her tally. Freshman Ciana Galvin (Newark, N.Y./Newark) added 10 points and was a force on the boards, grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds. Galvin's all-around play was crucial down the stretch as the freshman guard went on to add 2 assists and 2 steals to her stat line.

The Lakers who held a narrow 3-point lead going into the halftime break would go on to extend their lead thanks to strong contributions from teammates Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) and Quynn Tallman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) who put up 6 and 4 points respectively. Tallman notably was key to facilitating the Lakers' offense, leading with 4 assists and adding 6 rebounds to her final total. Sophomore Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./Newark) had an overall performance adding 5 points and 4 rebounds, alongside 3 assists.

The win marks the Lakers' second-straight victory and they will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup as they look ahead to a road trip to Division II Niagara County Community College this Thursday, November 30th at 5:30 PM.
