Lakers Fall to Cannoneers in McVean Gymnasium

WATERTOWN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team traveled to SUNY Jefferson Community College Tuesday night for a NJCAA Region III and Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup with the Cannoneers. In the team's first matchup of the season, the Cannoneers would hold an advantage from the start as the Lakers fell to the home squad, 84-27.

Freshman Ciana Galvin (Newark, N.Y./Newark) led the scoring with 8 points while adding 2 rebounds to her effort while teammate Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) added 7 of her points, including a 3-pointer. Roussell was active on defense, grabbing 3 steals and blocking 2 shots in the game.

Teammates Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./Newark) and Alissa Mazzye (Oneida, N.Y./Stockbridge Valley) added 5 points. Robson would pull down 5 rebounds and dished out 2 assists, while Mazzye collected 5 rebounds. Coming off the bench, Lexi Swarthout (Wayne, N.Y./Hammondsport) made the most of her opportunity, adding 2 points and 2 rebounds to the tally.

The loss marks the team's final game of the fall semester as students return home for mid-semester break. The Lakers will return to action on January 13th, 2023 for a road trip to Utica, N.Y. to face the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College. The teams will tip off at 12 PM on the Hawks' home court.
