Defense Propels Women's Basketball to Victory

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers women's basketball team earned their fifth regular season victory with a 38-29 win over the visiting SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves. In a back-and-forth game, defense proved to be the difference maker, despite the Lakers losing the turnover battle.

Tenacious defense and rebounding were pivotal to the Lakers securing their first win of the new year. Freshman Leah Williams (Olean, N.Y./Olean) was the standout performer for the Lakers, contributing a game-high 23 points. Her impressive effort on the boards completed the double-double as Williams pulled in 11 rebounds. Despite not scoring, freshman Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) had a significant impact on the game, pulling down 13 boards.

On sophomore day, sophomore Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./Newark) came up big, adding 6 points and leading the team with 4 assists. Additionally, Robson's defense was crucial down the stretch as the sophomore guard registered 3 steals to thwart a late comeback attempt by the Timberwolves. Classmates Quynn Tallman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Georgia Luft (Elba, N.Y./Elba) added 4 and 5 points, respectively. Luft's 8 rebounds and Tallman's 6 further emphasized the Lakers' dominance on the glass.

The team will look to carry the momentum from the win into tomorrow's matchup at home against the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings. The teams will tip off at 12 PM on FLCC's Putt Moore Court.
