Women's Lacrosse Returns to Finger Lakes Community College

Stein Transitions to Women's Lacrosse

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Lakers will see a familiar face on campus during the 2022-23' sports seasons in Dave Stein. Stein, who coached the men's lacrosse program for 18 years will transition to the role of head coach for the women's lacrosse program at FLCC.

Stein explained the opportunity as a challenge he looks forward to, "this will be a learning curve, I have never coached on the women's side, but I look forward to the challenge", he explained. Stein, who played college lacrosse at Michigan State, and was team captain for the Spartans has enjoyed a successful coaching career with the Lakers. Stein is a 4-time Mid-State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, 2-time NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year, and 2-time National Coach of the Year.

Stein currently is a 2nd-grade teacher at Prattsburgh Central School and is the boy's modified soccer coach for the Avoca/Prattsburgh Titans. When asked why he decided to return to the collegiate scene, Stein explained, "I want to continue to have an impact on people's lives, that is the same reason I teach 2nd grade, it is that simple. I want these student-athletes to know if they come to Finger Lakes, excel academically, and work hard, they can move on and get a scholarship".

Stein brings a passion for the game that he will use to bring the program back to prominence, "I am eager to recruit and build this program", he explained. Now, heading into year 19 as a coach at Finger Lakes Community College, Stein will look to build the culture, reputation, and notoriety of the FLCC women's lacrosse program.

"I love the sport, it is up-tempo, you have to be athletic, and it takes a lot of mental and physical toughness", Stein added. The Lakers will build their program in an area rich in lacrosse talent and culture at the high school level, with several strong Section V programs; the Lakers have an expectation of competing in the Spring of 2022.
