Barker Makes 11 Saves, Women's Soccer Falls on Sophomore Day

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer team hosted Herkimer College for a Sophomore Day game Friday afternoon. The Lakers (1-4) fell to the Generals (2-2) by a score of 4-0.

Trailing 1-0, FLCC had back-to-back good scoring opportunities beginning in the 15th minute. Sophomore Nichaela Commisso (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) ripped a shot from outside the box that was saved, then two minutes later, freshman Allie Bowe (Victor, NY/Victor) fired a shot from 25 yards out that was also saved.

The Generals had a chance to extend their lead to two goals when Alexis Smith broke in on goal in the 40th minute, but sophomore Sarah Barker (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) stepped up and made the save for FLCC.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the second half, Commisso had another solid look on goal in the 67th minute, but her shot from 12-yards out was saved.

Herkimer extended its lead to 3-0 on a goal in the 75th minute. Three minutes later, sophomore Levi Bollman (Caldwell, TX/Caldwell) and Bowe played a little give-and-go outside the box. Bollman fed Bowe, who made a run and ripped a shot from 10-yards out that was also saved.

On the other end of the field, Barker warded off a barrage of shots from the Generals late in the second half, including making a diving save to her left of a blast from Kayla Suppa in the 84th minute. Barker finished with 11 saves for the Lakers.

Before the game, FLCC honored the following sophomores for their commitment and dedication to the women's program: Sarah Barker, Abigail DeFisher (Marion, NY/Marion), Hannah Galloway (Phelps, NY/Midlakes), Trinity Maestre (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) and Rachel Wheeler (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy).
