Lakers Battle with National Runner-up in Season Opener

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer team played host to the 2021 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) runner-up, the SUNY ESF Mighty Oaks.

The Lakers would battle back and forth with the Mighty Oaks in the contest. Abby Neill of the Mighty Oaks would break a 0-0 tie in the 14^th minute, scoring unassisted. The Lakers would head into the break, trailing 1-0. Freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) would quickly bring the game to a tie in the 54^th minute, scoring unassisted. SUNY ESF's Abigail Thomas would break the tie, scoring in the 81^st minute of the close contest. Lakers Sophomore goalie Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) would make 12 saves on 14 shots on goal, minimizing the offensive attack of the Mighty Oaks.

Allie Bowe had 4 shots on goal, while teammate Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) would convert her 1 shot on goal for a score in the contest. Freshman Natalie Lecceardone (Manchester, N.Y./ Red Jacket) would pick up 1 shot on the goal on the pitch as well.

The Lakers will return to play on August 31^st on the road in a 4 pm matchup with the Jayhawks of Jamestown Community College, where they will look to avenge their season-opening loss.
