Lakers Secure Sixth Straight Win; Lewis Picks Up Third Hat Trick

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The Lakers hit the road Monday night to Pittsford, N.Y. for a matchup with the St. John Fisher University Cardinals JV squad. Last season, the Lakers and Cardinals squared off in a non-regional matchup at FLCC, where the two teams would battle to a 5-5 tie.

The Lakers, sitting on a five-game win streak looked to not only avenge last year's tie but also extend their current streak. The matchup looked to be a mirror image of last year's matchup, as the two teams entered the 40th minute of the match tied.

Freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) who currently leads the Lakers is goals and points broke the tie for the team off from a feed from Sophomore midfielder Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) for a long-ball breakaway goal. Lewis took little time to extend the Laker's lead, scoring just two minutes later in the 43rd minute on a cross from Halee Passarell (Holley, N.Y./ Holley).

The team would enter the break with a 2-0 lead and victory in sight. However, the Cardinals were quick to put pressure on the Lakers, scoring in the 58th minute unassisted. Freshman Ella Lewis would essentially seal the game in the 86th minute, receiving a pass from Sophomore teammate Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor), putting the Lakers up 3-1, the eventual final score.

Sophomore Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) continued her impressive season in goal, allowing 1 goal in the matchup and making 13 saves.

The Lakers will take a much-needed break after back-to-back matches. The team will hit the road on Sunday, September 25th for a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III match with the SUNY Broome Hornets, who less than a week ago sat in the NJCAA Division III women's soccer national rankings. The match will serve as another test on the season for the Lakers.
