Lakers Score 10 in Sophomore Day Victory

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Lakers matched up with the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers on Friday, October 7th for an NJCAA Region III contest. The day also served as Sophomore day for Lakers Mackenzie Johnson Boser (Dansville, N.Y./ Dansville)Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor)Tori Armstrong (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye)Halee Passarell (Holley, N.Y./ Holley)Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye)Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor), and Jenna Tenney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua). It was also Laker Supporting Lakers day, a day created by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to celebrate each of the Laker's athletics programs for one home game during their season.

The Lakers did not disappoint in front of the home crowd, earning a shutout victory over the Panthers, 10-0, and improving their record to 7-5 on the season. Fitting for the circumstance, the team saw four different Sophomores score in the matchup.

Midfielder Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) broke open the scoring for the Lakers, putting one in the back of the net, unassisted, 10 minutes into the match. Just 6 minutes later, Sophomore Jenna Tenney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) would feed Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) from her defensive position to put the team up 2-0. Morgan Collazo would net the third goal for the Lakers, scoring off a pass from fellow Sophomore Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor).

The Sophomores would continue to shine on their Sophomore Day, as Allie Bowe would chip in a goal just 1 minute later, unassisted, to make the score 4-0. Morgan Collazo would pick up her third goal of the day, completing the hat trick from a goal in the 22nd minute.

Sophomore Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) who has served as the Laker's starting goalkeeper this season, would pick up the first 24 minutes of the game in goal, before handing over the position to Freshman Adiah Northrup (Naples, N.Y./ Naples). Northrup would play 66 minutes in goal, making 2 saves on 2 shots on goal. Hall would find herself on offense, where she played her Freshman season, and would pick up her first goal of the year unassisted. The Lakers entered the break with a 6-0 advantage over the Panthers.

Right out of the break, Allyson Surdick (Avon, N.Y./ Avon) would come out of her defensive position and score her first goal of the season. Sophomore Grace Hall would pick up her second goal of the season in the 58th minute, netting the brace on Sophomore Day. Sophomore Tori Armstrong (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) would join Hall and Surdick in scoring her first goal of the season to grow the Lakers lead 9-0. Freshman Ella Lewis would complete the brace in the 77th minute, capping off a successful afternoon in a 10-0 shutout win.

The Laker's season is almost coming to an end, with their next matchup at Niagara County Community College on October 12th at 2 PM. The team will then finish out the regular season at home in matches against Bryant & Stratton on the 15th, and William Smith on the 18th, before the Lakers begin their quest for a regional championship.
