Lakers Draw #4 Seed in Regional Play

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer team drew the #4 seed for the NJCAA Region III playoffs. the Lakers, who are 8-7, hold a 7-3 regional record. With their ranking confirmed, the Lakers will find themselves back at home on Tuesday, October 25th for a match against the Herkimer Generals at 5 PM.

The game will serve as a rematch between the two teams, with the Lakers coming out on top in their last matchup in early September, 4-0. The Lakers scored 42 goals and dished out 22 assists for a total of 106 points during the regular season. Freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) led the team in goals during the season, with 22. Lewis' 22 goals were the most in the nation for NJCAA Division III women's soccer.

Sophomore Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) was the Laker's next leading scorer, with 6 on the season. Bowe put her playmaking skills on display during the regular season, dishing out 10 assists, good for the 12th most in all of NJCAA Division III. Midfielders Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) and Halee Passarell (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) played important roles on the offensive and defensive side of the ball for the Lakers. Collazo added 4 goals and 2 assists during the season, while Passarell would dish out 2 assists.

The Lakers defensive front of Riley Mason (Rochester, N.Y./ Hilton)Allyson Surdick (Avon, N.Y./ Avon)Adiah Northrup (Naples, N.Y./ Naples)Tori Armstrong (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye), and Jenna Tenney (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) was integral to the Lakers success. The defense held opponents scoreless in 4 matches during the season, making scoring opportunities scarce for the opposition.

Sophomore goalie Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) started 12 matches in the net for the Lakers, seeing time on the field as well. Hall finished the regular season with 2 goals scored and 91 saves; 9th most in NJCAA Division III.

Lakers Ella Lewis, Allie Bowe, Halee Passarell, Morgan Collazoand Grace Hall were all named to the Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) All-Conference team for their strong performances during the regular season.

The Lakers will look to repeat their performance in September against the Generals on Tuesday night, with a chance to find themselves in the NJCAA Region III, Division A Championship game at Genesee Community College.
