Women's Track and Field Claims Six 1st Place Finishes

Little Falls, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College women's track and field team finished out their weekend at the NJCAA Region III championships with a 4th place team finish. Lakers standout student-athlete Leah Lloyd would earn Athlete of the Meet honors thanks to a stellar showing. 

Leah Lloyd would earn four 1st-place finishes in the meet, out of six total on the day for the Lakers. Lloyd began her day with a 1st-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 12:21.50. She would then go on to win the 800-meter, completing the race in 2:37.91. Lloyd continued a stellar day with a 1st place finish in the 1500-meter, with a time of 5:27.23, before capping off the day with another 1st place position in the 5000-meter, completing the course in 21:03.04.

Assistant coach Jayden Donahue stated, "Leah 100% deserved the women's track Athlete of the Meet award. She handily won four distance events, she just has so much talent and her work ethic is incredible". Donahue worked closely with Lloyd during the Fall cross country season, where he serves as head coach, he added, "she has grown since the 2021 cross country season and is strong and more competitive, I am really looking forward to the National Championship next week where she will compete in the steeplechase".

Morgan Collazo put together a dominant finish in the discus throw, earning a mark of 27.37m, claiming the 1st place position by .38m. Collazo would add to her impressive day with a 9.81m mark in the shot put to earn another 1st-place finish in the field events.

The Lakers now shift their focus to the NJCAA Division III national championship which will be held in Troy, N.Y. at Hudson Valley Community College from May 12th to May 14th, with events beginning at 9 AM.
