Track and Field Earns Several PRs at SUNY Brockport Meet

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Lakers track and field teams showed up for the SUNY Brockport meet on Saturday, April 15th determined, as several student-athletes left the day with career performances.

In the Steeplechase event, John Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman) finished 6th place with a time of 11:10.63. In the 4x100 relay, a team consisting of DeShawn Owens, Nasir Carr (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Arcadia), Jose Rivera (Waterloo, N.Y./ Waterloo), and Memphis Lohnes (Rushville, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman) demonstrated their speed and teamwork, securing a 7th place with a time of 46.90.

Sophomore Jacob DiGiovanni (Waterloo, N.Y./ Waterloo) excelled in the 1500m event, setting a new personal record with a time of 5:02.01. Nasir Carr also achieved a PR in the 400m, finishing with a time of 56.47. In the 800m, DiGiovanni pushed himself to the finish with a time of 2:29.17.

The 200m event saw impressive performances from multiple student-athletes, with DeShawn Owens setting a new PR with a time of 24.59, closely followed by Jake Williams with a time of 24.60, also a PR. Nasir Carr also achieved a PR with a time of 25.57, while Jose Rivera and John Zimmerman set personal bests with times of 26.06 and 26.38, respectively.

In the field events, DeShawn Owens showcased his skill in the Long Jump, achieving a distance of 5.47m (17'11.25"). Jake Williams also displayed his strength in the Shot Put, throwing a distance of 7.60m (24'11.25"). Memphis Lohnes continued to impress in the Pole Vault this season, clearing a height of 3.95m (12'7.5"). In the Javelin event, Jake Williams threw a distance of 28.93m, while Gavin Fernaays (Williamson, N.Y./ Williamson) set a new PR with a throw of 32.48m. Jason Hammond (Geneseo, N.Y./ Geneseo) displayed an outstanding performance, achieving a throw of 34.70m, a PR, which also qualified him for the NJCAA Region III championships.

The Lakers return to action next Saturday, April 22nd at the University of Buffalo Alumni Invite for their last meet of the regular season before the start of the NJCAA Region III championships from April 29th-May 6th.
