Several Lakers Reach Regional Standards at SUNY Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College track and field team excelled in their first meet of the indoor portion of their season, with the Lakers reaching Region III Championship qualifying standards in 9 events. 

Freshman Phallon Rivera led the way in the shot put with an impressive throw of 8.88m. Teammate Juliette Ventura demonstrated her versatility, qualifying in two events, achieving 4.22m in the long jump and 7.49m in the shot put. Cross country and now track and field teammates Morgan Cheney and Megan Calder both shone in the mile, clocking in at 6:20.44 and 6:45.57 respectively, which qualified them for the 1500m outdoor track and field standard. Additionally, Calder earned a finish of 2:54.87 in the 800m, with Cheney not far behind at 3:06.80.

Freshman Terreque Davis soared to qualifying heights, clearing 1.76m in the high jump. Classmate Jason Hunt-McLean impressed in the shot put, hitting a regional standard with a qualifying mark of 9.82m. Sophomore Justin Luna finished the day for the Lakers, completing the 60m hurdles in 11.70 and the long jump at 4.78m.

A promising start to the season will continue back at SUNY Brockport on Friday, February 2nd for the Brockport Invitational and Multi Meet. The meet will mark the Lakers' last of the indoor portion of their season, as they open up outdoor competition on Saturday, March 30th for the Geneseo Early Invite at SUNY Geneseo.
