Lakers go 2-0 on Day 2 of the Howard CC Tournament

The Lakers won both matches today to take a 5th place finish at the Howard CC Tournament in Columbia, MD. The Lakers beat the College of Southern Maryland (25-22, 16-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12) and Lackawanna College (25-11, 25-15, 25-14) for the 5th place finish.

During the match against the College of Southern Maryland, the Lakers and CSM traded sets until the 5th when the Lakers prevailed. Ryenn Smith had 23 kills, 3 aces, and 12 digs. Courtney Bradish had a strong showing with 11 kills, 2 aces, and 9 digs. Jessie Blumenfeld and Bridget Whitehair had 21 and 19 assists respectively. Whitehair also had 6 kills in the five set match with Christina Denniston giving a solid defensive effort with 10 digs. 

"I was really proud of our team today and the perserverance they showed against the College of Southern Maryland. They fought hard during the 5th set and executed at a very high level," said head coach Matt Barr.

In the second match of the day, all 9 Lakers saw action and contributed to the win. Ali Drier led the Lakers with 4 aces and 5 kills on 6 attempts. As a team, the Lakers had 12 service aces with Smith leading all attackers with 8 kills. 

The Lakers open the 2013 season with a 3-1 start and will play this Wednesday, September 4th at Onondaga Community College at 6 p.m.
